The Space Shuttle sample line drawing from Ventura Publisher as reproduced by Christchurch’s latest service for desktop publishers. It has been printed on the AM Varityper 4300 P typesetter of Toptype, run by Mr Derek Ansell. A file from Ventura 2.0 was taken in on floppy diskette: this was the output. . Toptype will take Post Script files from both MS-DOS machines and Apple Macintoshes, and can print documents prepared under both Page Maker and Ventura. Commercial users will be able to use the machine’s typesetting fonts for output of more than 2000 dots per inch

resolution, compared with the 300 d.p.i. of laser printers. The Print Bureau provides a similar service in Christchurch, but uses a Linotronic typesetter. Mr Ansell plans to charge users on a per-hour basis. Output with considerable amounts of art work takes longer to process than that which is mainly text. Those with mainly text work should get economic output. Toptype is so new that the signs had not gone up on Friday. For those having trouble finding it, it is upstairs at 314 Cashel Street.
