New site for department

The Department of Science and Computing is the second largest section at Christchurch Polytechnic. At present, the department is scattered throughout the complex, but next year it will be in a new building being constructed at the corner e' Madras Street and Coventry Street.

Dr Selwyn Maister, one of the heads of the department, says that students are usually in small classes and have a high accessibility to scientific equipment and computers. “Our courses follow a practical path and will lead to well-paid jobs

where employers require experience rather than university qualifications,” Dr Maister says. Polytechnic students have very good support services on campus. These include an excellent library as well as recreational and counselling facilities. There is also a child-care centre.
