Sir,—At least one sentence in Bert Walker’s letter (July 3) causes an involuntary lift of an eyebrow when he claims that “South Africans are fair-minded people who demand the highest moral and professional integrity in all their dealings.” One as : sumes that by South Africans he means the white-skinned minority who, in their dealings with the black majority, convey the irresistible impression that they consider their majority, blackskinned fellow citizens less than human by denying them elementary voting rights. As well as “a judicial system similar to our own,” Bert Walker could add that they have a multi-party parliamentary system similar to our own which is a total negation of democracy, given South Africa’s disenfranchised black majority, rendering utterly ridiculous the usual Afrikaner ibe that the independent African States are “one-party, black, Marxist dictatorships.” — Yours, etc. * M.
