Same team against Pumas
PA Wellington The New Zealand selectors yesterday named an unchanged line-up for the first test against the touring Argentine rugby team in Dunedin on Saturday. The coveners, Alex Wyllie, Lane Penn and John Hart ' said the same 15 players who started the two tests against France last month had been retained. The match at Carisbrook at the week-end will be the fifth time in succession that the same combination has played together, having turned out also in the second and third tests against Australia last year. According to rugby historians, the sequence is unprecedented. Even the All Blacks of the mid to late 19605, who compiled a record 17 winning tests in a row, managed to put out an unchanged team only three times in succession. The team is: John Gallagher; John Kirwan, Joe Stanley, Terry Wright; John Schuster, Grant Fox; Bruce Deans; Wayne Shelford (captain); Michael Jones, Gary Whetton, Murray Pierce, Alan Whetton; Richard Loe, Sean Fitzpatrick, Steve McDowell. Reserves — Bernie McCahill, Warwick Taylor, Graeme Bachop, Zinzan Brooke, Warren Gatland, Ron Williams.
