N.Z. Wimbledon pair defeated

Alastair Hunt (Canterbury) and Michael Zoricich (Auckland), the surprise late additions to junior Wimbledon, had a brief interlude with the prestigious tournament as they were knocked out in the first round by the third seeds. Hunt and Zoricich were denied entry to the doubles event in spite of their world doubles ranking of No. 2 because they had not been accepted for the singles. But they successfully lobbied their case with the All England Tennis Club. In a reasonably tight match the pair lost to a Swedish combination, 6-4, 6-4. A spokesperson for the All England Club commenting from Wimbledon confirmed that the doubles draw is tradition-

ally made up from the. singles players, but that ranking points were taken into, consideration before a committee decision was reached. Meanwhile, Troy Tipene, another junior from North Shore, is through to the quarter-finals of the doubles with his Indian partner, Paes. The pair are'Unseeded and played Ahderson and Woodridge from Australia late last evening. Tipene, the sole New Zealand entry in the junior men’s singles was bundled out of the first round by the top seed, Nicholas Kulti, of Sweden. Tipene has held his place among the top 20 junior men in the latest world rankirig list: He has remained at No. 16. Kulti has dropped from ninth to thirteenth place.
