ARCHERY The Olympic archer, Ann Shurrock, retained the women’s recurve title and Dave McAuley the men’s in the South Island indoor archery championships in the Roy Stokes Hall, New Brighton. Aaron Carson won the junior recurve title convincingly for his first South Island success. Tight competition was. the feature of the crossbow competion. Lionel Tuhiwai and Bill McClare, both of Christchurch, shot arrow for arrow to finish equal after the first round. WRESTLING The Nevada High School All Star wrestling team beat the Canterbury junior team, 11 bouts to four, in a tournament at Rangiora High School on Wednesday evening. While soundly beaten by the touring team from the United States there were some very encouraging ■ performances and the local wrestlers gained valuable international experience. A top performer was 16-year-old Craig Jones, of Rangiora, who wrestled in the 75 kg class for Canterbury. He took only 53s to secure a win with a fall over his opponent, Matt Urwin. Shane Ashford, in the 64 kg class, also won with a fall in 4 min 13s.

Shaun Moran, who has just returned from an exchange trip to the United States, won his bout bn technical superiority with 12 pointe to six in the 64 kg class. His team-mate, Russell Perrett, also won his bout in the 77 kg class on points, 6-2.
