Blood donor call at Chch bank

Christchurch people will be able to deposit more than their money at a city bank tomorrow. Customers at the National Bank in Hereford Street will also be

encouraged to become blood donors during a recruitment drive by the Canterbury Blood Transfusion Centre. Several thousand donors were still needed to boost numbers, said the centre’s manager, Mrs Carol Fahey. The centre was not shQft of blood, but the

people to give it, she said. “Our inner-city donors are being bled four to five times a year. Ideally we would like to say that people should donate only twice a year.”

The centre already had 16,000 donors, but would like up to 20,000. Another 2000 donors, particularly those with O+ and O-, would be appreciated in the short term, said Mrs Fahey. Donors must be in good health, not on medication, oyer 16 years old, and over 54kg.
