Fiji lifts ban on TVNZ crew
NZPA-AAP Suva Fiji’s interim Government yesterday reversed a ban on a Television New Zealand crew who had earlier been refused permission to enter the country to cover international fishing negotiations in Suva.
A Ministry of Information official said the crew from the current affairs programme “Frontline” were expected to arrive in Suva today on the condition that they limit their filming to the conference only.
No reason for the original ban was given. However, the official said applications by the crew for temporary work permits had been received late.
The fishing conference, involving more than a dozen nations, has been called to decide the future of destructive drift-netting by Japan, South Korea and Taiwan in the South Pacific.
