Jockeys given suspensions

PA Gisborne Levin jockeys Ross Elliot and Phillip Mercer were both suspended until after next Saturday following separate incidents at the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s meeting last Saturday. Elliot, the rider of the winner Robyn’s Affair in the Hotel Russley Improvers, was charged with careless riding in that he caused crowding to horses inside him soon after the start of the 1400 m race. Golden Curls (Chris Bain) received the worst of the interference. Mercer was first past the post on Our High Noon in the final race on the programme, the Nationwide Horse Transport 1600, but was also charged with careless riding in that he caused interference to the second-placed Arcado just after turning for home. Our High Noon, was observed to push out and bump Arcado (Tony Allan). The judicial committee were unanimous in deciding Our High Noon had affected the chances of Arcado and sudsequently reversed the placings. * f
