Authenticity the aim in Vietnam War series
Three of the leading actors in the drama series set in the recreation area next to the American army base at Da Nang, Vietnam, visited the real China beach before starting work on the second series of “China Beach” (starting tonight at 8.30 on Two).
Dana Delany, Jeff Kober and Brian Wimmer all spent time in Vietnam to gain a better insight into their characters and
to make their portrayal as authentic as possible.
The aim of both actors and producers, was to make the series as realistic as they could. Although the army base setting looks authentic, the series was filmed in Valencia, California, where a crew of more than 100 spent a month and a half painstakingly recreating the Vietnam War setting.
An entire base was built, including the EV AC hospital facility, a shanty town, a communications room, and an officers mess. The programmemakers even went to the trouble of damming and diverting a river.
All the familiar characters return in this new series of “China Beach,” continuing the story about a group of dedicated women and their wartime experiences.
