Celebration of French culture
French people in Christchurch and all those who enjoy the French language and culture will be celebrating the bicentenary of the French revolution on Friday, July 14.
This will take the form of a French buffet and cultural evening, to be held in the K block of Christchurch Polytechnic, starting at 7 p.m. There will be dancing to French music and communal singing of French songs. The charge is $2O per person or $lO for children. All interested are welcome. For more information contact Chantal at 383-119 as soon as possible.
Proteas A protea demonstration and seminar will be held at the Horticultural Hall in Cambridge Terrace on Saturday, July 1. This begins at 10.15 a.m. and finishes at 3 p.m. with afternoon tea. There
will be a talk on proteas throughout the world, a panel discussion and a floral art demonstration. The cost is $5 or $2 for the afternoon only. The event has been provided by the South Island Protea Growers’ Association. For more information phone Louise Callander at 666-937.
Guitar workshop
A workshop for guitarists at all levels and in all styles will be held at the Workers’ Educational Association on Saturday, July 29.
Total beginners are welcome. Folk, blues, ragtime, contemporary and classical will all be catered for. Alan Kirwan, Martin Nutzli, and Keith Petch will be the tutors. The workshop runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The fee is $36. Enrolment is limited so get in fast. Phone 664-530 or 660-285. Compiled by GLENYS WALKER.
