Man charged with rape of two Chch women
Charges of raping two middle-aged women in their Linwood homes were laid against Gary Abrahamas Malitte in the District Court yesterday. Malitte, aged 22, unemployed (Mr Stan Barker), was remanded in custody by Judge Frampton to June 29.
He is charged with the rape of a woman, aged 58, in Armagh Street on March 23, and of a 53-year-old woman in Wor-
cester Street on April 15. Malitte appeared in court on Thursday facing charges of assaulting two women with intent to sexually violate them, and with breaking into their homes. He has been further remanded in police custody. DRUG OFFENCES A searchlight and a sensor beam focused on a glasshouse containing 21
cannabis plants at the address of Thomas Lindsay Jones, said Senior-Ser-geant Kit Maling. Jones, aged 53, a driver (Mr Tony Garrett), told the police these items had been strung up between trees to prevent people from stealing the cannabis. In a locked shed on the property the police found five female plants about lm high, said Senior-Ser-geant Maling.
Jones admitted cultivating cannabis, and possessing the drug for supply on February 2. In explanation he said the cannabis was for his own use. Some would be given away, and the rest would be sold to whoever would buy it. Jones was convicted and remanded on bail to July 7 for sentence. He had originally been set down for a depositions hearing.
