Kurow Cup option to be considered
Otago correspondent The kurow Cup is under consideration as a starting point in a fresh campaign for the talented Takanini pacer Dillon Dean.
“I am giving the Kurow race some thought,” said Don Dwyer, the trainer of Dillon Dean. “I am coming down for the National meeting at Addington and it would work in.”
The Kurow Cup, on August 14, has been programmed as C 8 - OC free-for-all over 2600 metres from a standing start. It will carry a stake of $15,000. i
The race was run as a C 8 invitation last year. The first night of the National meeting is on August 19, and the second night a week later. The programme has yet to be decided.
Last year the Metropolitan club staged C 8 - OC free-for-alls each night. The first night was a
standing start over 2000 m and the second night the race was over 2600 m (mobile) with preferential draws.
Dillon Dean, the winner of 15 races, and nine times placed in 32 starts for $473,820 in stakes, was given a three-week spell after his last race on April 28.
Dillon Dean has had six wins, including the New Zealand Derby, John Brandon Championship, Sires’ Stakes Final plus a heat and the Final of the Rising Stars’ Series, a second, third and fourth from nine starts at Addington. He raced below his best at Addington last September when fourth in a heat and third in the Final of the Superstars Series. He bounced back later in the season to win a semi-final of the Lion Red Series and the New Zealand Messenger Final at Alexandra Park.
