Charles Hunt dies

Charles Edward Hunt, a prominent standardbred owner, died suddenly at his home in Darfield last Sunday. Mr Hunt in partnership with his wife, Audrey, owned the handy pacers, Winning Smoke and Port View, plus the fine trotter, Light View. Winning Smoke won nine races and Port View seven, while Light View won 12, including an Inter-Dominion heat at Addington in 1971, the Worthy Queen Handicap and the Canterbury Park Trotting Cup. Mr Hunt was a longserving member of the Hororata Trotting Club.
