Australia, China deal still on
NZPA-AAP Melbourne Bloodshed and chaos in China have not deterred an Australian Stock Exchange second-board company Just Australian China Holdings from entering a joint venture trading operation with a Chinese Government authority. Just Australia’s chairman, Mr Peter Just, said yesterday the China Import and Export Commodity Inspection Corporation would take a 70 per cent stake in the joint venture, which will inspect Chinabound cargo in Australia to reduce or eliminate clearance delays when the cargo was landed. Just Australia will hold the remaining 30 per cent. Mr Just said that he had considered postponing the venture because of the current political turmoil in China, but felt it was too important. Mr Just doubted the Chinese Government would retreat from its ten-year-old policy of economic liberalisation since the country had benefited from foreign exchange and had improved its balance of payments.
