Pea offer made
Canterbury pea growers are hoping other processors follow a Timaru processor in offering a substantial price increase, well ahead of planting time. Alpine Foods had confirmed contracts at $3OO a tonne for grade five peas, a 30 per cent increase on last season, said the vice-president of the New Zealand Vegetable and Potato Growers’ Federation, Mr Max Lilley. The timing of the offer would allow growers to plan sound management decisions, and would assist Alpine Foods to secure prime process cropping land close to the factory, Mr Lilley said.
