Marijuana
Sir, —The Minister of Police, Mr Tapsell, called for a public debate on decriminalising marijuana. As soon as a psychologist, Les Gray, spoke on television in favour of decriminalising pot, the police raided his home. Can others who advocate relaxing the marijuana laws expect similar treatment? That should make it a rather one-sided debate. So much for free speech. The persecution of Les Gray highlights a major problem with the present laws — they enable the police to hassle a large group of otherwise law-abiding citizens who use this drug. — Yours, etc.,
C. JACKSON May 29, 1989.
