Vienna Boys Choir to visit
The Vienna Boys Choir returns to Christchurch on July 8 at the end of a tour of New Zealand. The choir began in 1488 when a group of eight boys was assembled by order of Emperor Maximillian the First who wished to have choristers permanently in the Imperial Chapel. Through a twice yearly series of auditions, open to any child with a good voice and a gift for music, the best that Austria has to offer are chosen to attend a speical preparatory school. Here they receive a thorough shcolastic education with an emphasis on music, including theory as well as the practice of singing and instruction in at least one musical instrument.
