Successful cruise missile test
NZPA-AP Florida A Navy Tomahawk cruise missile launched from the Gulf of Mexico successfully completed a 724 km test flight over Florida and Alabama, officials said.
l The land-attack missile was launched from a sub- : marine in the Gulf and I was recovered after mak- • ing a parachute landing in i Eglin Air Force Base’s ■ test range. , Cruise missiles can be launched from sea or air
■ and can carry nuclear or conventional warheads. I The missile used in Sunday’s test was unarmed. i Because the jet- ; powered weapon was recovered by parachute, ■ rather than crash landing into its target as a live
weapon would, it can be refurbished. The missiles cost SUSI. 3 million (SNZ2.I million) new. Cruise missiles can fly up to 2,400 km, depending on the warhead.
