Rachel Cowie, a sixth former at Burnside High School, speaks on the topic, “Men stand to talk, women stay and work,” in the senior Maori language section of the Canterbury region Maori speech contest at Hagley High School. She was placed second equal with Tamati Robinson, behind Huata Martindale, of Hagley High School. He will represent the region in the national finals of the competition in Masterton on September 21-22.
