Bank trip turns into free . dip...
NZPA-AP Jay, Florida Two schoolboys on a class field trip to a bank stole thousands of dollars when they were allowed into the vault, the police said. The field trip turned into a visit to the juvenile detention centre for the two pupils, aged 12 and 13, who helped themselves to more than SUSIO,OOO ($16,786) during a tour of the vault at the NCNB National Bank. The pupils stuffed $lOO bills into their clothes as their class toured the vault. They were taken to the youth detention centre in Pensacola and charged with grand theft. The Jay Elementary School’s principal, Mr Elton Nowling, said the pupils were among 30 sixthgraders and their teachers who toured the bank to learn about banking and currency. After the visit the bank .manager called to say he was missing SUSIO,IOO. Mr Nowling said two sheriff’s deputies questioned the pupils. They did not try to deny that they took the money. All the money was recovered. Mr Nowling later assembled all the sixth-graders for a lecture. “I think (the incident) may have seemed kind of funny to start out with, but when I got there it ceased being funny,” Mr Nowling said.
