Abusive callers hound Titter

PA Auckland The Auckland Area Health Board commissioner, Mr Harold Titter, has been forced to take refuge from abusive telephone callers, angry about cuts to the the area’s health service. Mr Titter and his wife, Margaret, have received calls at their Remuera home day and night. Mrs Titter is understood to have taken much of the abuse. After the announcement of how $46 million was to be cut from the public health service, Mr Titter got a confidential number. Graffiti has also been sprayed on a neighbour’s drive. It is thought the culprits meant to deface Mr Titter’s property. Graffiti about Mr Titter have been sprayed at several city sites. Senior-Sergeant Tony Mander, of the Newmarket police, said he was “aware there could be problems” at the house. The board’s own security staff were thought to have stayed at the house at the week-end when Mr and Mrs Titter were at their bach. Board cars have been seen making patrols of the area. Mr Titter was appointed by the Minister of Health, Ms Clark, in March.
