Halfback joins 1000 club
The goal-kicking New Brighton halfback, Ross Adler, last Saturday became the sixth player to score 1000 points in Christchurch senior rugby. Adler has been in outstanding goal-kicking form this winter; in one match he set a new competition record of 16 conversions. His 166 points to date have carried his career aggregate to 1006, made up of 29 tries, 142 conversions, 199 penalty goals and three dropped goals. Last year he set a new mark of 46 penalty goals in a
season. Adler’s feat of topping a four-figure aggregate will be enthusiastically acclaimed by New Brighton supporters, because the nimble halfback has been a stalwart performer for the senior team in good times and bad. The other footballers in the “thousand club” are Peter Jellyman (Linwood), who holds the record at 1578 points, Colin Williamson (Shirley), Greg Coffey (Marist), Richard Wilson (Christchurch and Merivale), and Bernie Stewart (Marist).
