Planning for efficient use of storage space
Careful planning is the key to getting the maximum storage space in the bedroom. Few people can afford to have waste space, so planning makes the best use of available space. Storage systems for wardrobes can be custom-built or bought ready-made. A number of stores sell modular storage systems for wardrobes and cupboards which can be added to. “His” side of the wardrobe will be quite different from "her” side. “His” side needs space for shirts, ties, belts, trousers and jackets, with a small, long area for a full-length coat. In common with “her” side, everything needs, to be
accessible. Baskets and drawers are good for this. “Her” side needs places for dresses, blouses, skirts, trousers, coats, shoes, belts, scarves, jewellery and handbags. Deep drawers are ideal for jerseys. Planning will be made easier if you write down all requirements and work from there. It is a good idea, if you have the space, to use the wardrobe as a total storage unit, not just for clothes. A high, but accessible shelf for suitcases is useful. Sliding doors for wardrobes are excellent space savers. If your bedroom is small, you may be able to use valuable space under the bed for storage.
