Galarion Stakes victor
Galarion again returned a sub 2:00 mile rate for 1960 metres, in spite of being in the open throughout, in the sAustloo,ooo Foster’s New South Wales Sires’ Stakes Final for two-year-old pacers at Harold Park, Sydney, last Friday.
I The Noel Shinn-trained
gelding, a son of firstseason sire and former Meadowlands Pace winner Hilarion, pressured the Bathhurst Gold Crown winner, Woy Woy Karamea, from the outset before coming clear to score by 12 metres. Galarion completed the distance in 2:25.9, a mile rate of 1:59.8, and a
fraction slower than his juvenile track record, set in a heat a week earlier. The Ron Peace-trained Smart Paleface, a son of former top Australian pacer Paleface Adios, completed the quinella for Victorian stables by running second, two metres in front of the tiring Woy Woy Karamea.
