Air violation claim examined

PA Wellington The Civil Aviation Authority is investigating an alleged airways violation by a light aircraft that came too close to an Ansett New Zealand de Havilland DashB airliner near Christchurch on Wednesday. The authority’s manager for aerodrome and air navigation standards, Mr Rod Bracefield, said the DashB had flown from Wellington. It was making

an instrument approach 1 iiCp Christchurch airport « when there was apparent 1 loss of separation from a i

visually flying Canterbury Aero Club four-seat Piper Cherokee that was also preparing to land. It was not known how close the aircraft were to each other. On such an approach, a separation of less than 7km is considered an incident. Mr Bracefield said the Piper appeared to have lost radio contact. An airline spokesman said last night there had been no danger of a collision and that the airliper had continued with its normal approach.
