Balanced diet

Sir,—Much is said these days about diet. While I understand a diet of extremes is bad, it seems that any additives to food (e.g. salt, sugar, etc.) which make it interesting are bad. This, then, means that if you eat a regular diet of boring food you will live a longer life to endure more boring food! As one who enjoys spiced food I would prefer a life of well-balanced, interesting food. Already I am older than half the population, so convince me that I will have a shorter life. — Yours, etc., RON WILLEMS. May 11, 1989.
