Fall in fish prices

Fish prices in Christchurch have fallen because of low export prices and a good fishing season, according to fishing industry spokesmen. The president of the Christchurch Fish Retailers’ Association, Mr Mike Reitsma, said the Christchurch fish market was saturated. “Export prices appear

to have fallen and so in Christchurch there is a fish surplus,” he said. Lower international prices meant exporters were selling more fish on the domestic market, bringing prices down, he said. Prices had been down for the last 18 months, but had fallen lower over summer.
