Water bore into unknown ground

The Bexley bore is down to unknown ground below Christchurch in search of water.

The well, being drilled by the North Canterbury Catchment Board, has passed the 150 m limit of previous wells drilled in the city. Tests taken at 150 m showed water of good quality and an extremely good flow, said the

board’s acting manager of resources, Mr John Talbot.

“The well will be a good addition to the city’s water supply,” he said. It is now being drilled deeper to explore aquifers between 150 m and 400 m. There are four aquifers down to 150 m. Another four are expected to be tapped on the way to 400 m.
