Snag hits nightclub explosion inquiries

Scientific tests on the explosives used in the bombing of the Firehouse Nightclub have failed to turn up any new leads. The police were relying heavily on the outcome of the examination, but are now left with more questions than answers. “At the moment we’re going through the motions. We have no positive leads and no firm suspects,” Detective Gerry Cassidy said yesterday. About 30 people have been interviewed in connection with the May 2 bombing which caused minor damage to an outside wall of the Colombo Street, Sydenham, nightspot.

“We still have a lot of leg work to do. We still have to establish where the explosives and equipment was purchased. “If the guy has got it illegally, then it’s likely no-one is going to come forward with any information,” Detective Cassidy said.

Very little information had been offered by the public, he said.
