Many find jobs in April

Job placements through the Labour Department in Christchurch in April were more than double the number filled in the same month last year. Figures given today by a branch of the department, the New Zealand Employment Service, showed that the service placed 457 job seekers in Christchurch in April, an increase of 233.

A total of 575 job vacancies were notified, an increase of 232 on April last year.

During the month 2725 job seekers enrolled with the service. The total number enrolled in the area at the end of the month was 14,514, which included 919 school leavers.

In Ashburton 17 job seekers found work and 22 vacancies were notifies m the service. A total of 733 people enrolled with the service, including 66 school leavers.

In Rangiora 35 job seekers found work and there were 36 vacancies, 1128 people enrolled including 65 school leavers.
