Upset hockey win

The Canterbury women’s hockey team at the junior national tournament in Wellington upset the seedings by winning its pool ahead of fourth seeded Manawatu, 2-1, yesterday. Catherine Stubbs, the captain of the New Zealand under 21 team scored a goal from a corner bracket and Maia Lewis made her mark from a wide angle later in the tightly marked encounter. Canterbury now moves into the top pool of finalists and starts another round-robin competition today to decide the winner. Other pool one teams are Auckland, North Shore and Otago.
