New York Motoring returning to N.Z.

New York Motoring, the sire of unbeaten Victorian juvenile Tamworth Tony (1:59.6 mile rate, 1940 m), is to stand at National Bloodstock’s Ngaruawahia Stud Farm next season.

The 1:56.2 son of Most Happy Fella originally stood in Victoria for a season, then had two seasons in New Zealand before returning to Australia last term where he was bred with 125 mares.

Owned by National Bloodstock, New York Motoring was the leading percentage sire of two-year-old winners in Victoria last term, and leading first-season sire there. Apart from Tamworth Tony, a $40,000 Auckland purchase, New York Motoring has sired other smart youngsters in Interchange (four wins including the International Fillies’ Classic), Royal Motoring, Its Motor Power (11 wins), Dallas Court, Ninja Star, Boulevard and Cabriolet.

Driver Vin Knight believes Tamworth Tony, from the same Tutta Bella bunch of the Lou Thorpe family as 1971 Auckland Cup runner-up Bella’s Command, shows all the potential of a good horse. “He’s a tough little horse, he just keeps trying his heart out. He’s not a juvenile like Garry’s Advice was, he’s more of a stayer and will be much better next year,” was Knight’s appraisal of Tamworth Tony.
