Oaks fillies back home

Auckland correspondent Heavenly Body and Bon Cher, the Matamata quinella in last Saturday’s south Australian Oaks in Adelaide, arrived safely back in New Zealand on Tuesday. Both horses pleased their respective connections with their condition after the hit-and-run mission, in which Heavenly Body wore down Bon Cher to win the Group One feature. "Heavenly Body has gone straight out in the paddock for a spell,” said Graham Richardson, fore-

man for the filly’s trainer, Mike Moroney. “She’s lightened up a bit with the trip, but over all looks good. She’s definitely going to be a better horse next season.” Heavenly Body has now had three wins from her eight starts and has fulfilled Moroneys’ faith in her. Bon Cher, an $BOO,OOO yearling purchase two years ago, will also be rested according to her co-trainer Paul O’Sullivan. “She’s come a long way this season so she deserves a break,” said

O’Sullivan. Vincere shapingup Feilding steeplechaser, Vincere, is to be given his final workout for Saturday’s Aber Impcox Steeplechase on the Cambridge track this morning. The dual Tanalith Northern Hurdles winner remained in the north after his disappointing seventh in last Saturday’s G. W. Vercoe Steeplechase. He has been ini the care of regular rider Graeme Lord, with the pair being based at Mark Treweek’s stables at New-

stead (on the outskirts of Hamilton).

Trainer, John Mudgway, returned north from Feilding on Tuesday to supervise Vincere’s final build-up for the feature. “I’m very happy with the way he’s coming along,” said Mudgway. “He’s done really well since last Saturday and he’ll improve a lot with that run.”

Vincere will head back to Feilding after Saturday's race and he prepared for his big assignment, the $200,000 Nescafe Steeplechase.
