Caygill defends Govt policies
The Minister of Finance, Mr Caygill, yesterday defended the Government’s policies to the Service Workers’ Federation conference at Lincoln. In an address to the conference, he warned against policies that may be put forward by other political parties this election. Tension existed between those who were pushing' for greater prosperity and those demanding a fair share for all. While previous Labour governments had traditionally sought to help the disadvantaged and achieve social justice through redistribution of wealth, the fourth Labour Government had had no choice but to concentrate on growth over social justice. The previous National Government was to blame for that, he told the federation’s delegates.
