The Government of Western Samoa This position with the Department of Public Works presents a rare opportunity for career advancement while enjoying the enviable lifestyle and climate of Western Samoa. The position will be based in Apia, the capital, and will be for an initial two year contract. You will be responsible to the Director of Works through the Chief Architect. This is a supervisory position involving a broad range of design, inspection, training and administrative duties. You should hold a Batchelor of Engineering degree or equivalent, be a member of the New Zealand or Australian Institute of Engineers or equivalent, have five years minimum relevant work experience, with some seismic design experience desirable. Your work will involve you with the design and construction of government and private buildings, inspection of existing buildings and other works of the PWD Construction Division, superintending of contractors, training local engineering staff in all aspects of work, organisation and office procedures, assisting in the production of drawings, details, and specifications for structural components, and co-operating with the Civil Engineer in respect of engineering problems (bridges, dams etc) as required. .
