Colts in semis

The Canterbury colts’ A and B hockey teams have both qualified for the semifinals of their respective sections at the national colts’ tournament in Whangarei. Both teams were delayed a day by fog at Christchurch Airport on Sunday and did not arrive until late on Monday afternoon for evening games. South Canterbury was not so fortunate. It was also delayed and did not arrive in time for its game against Auckland B and ftas forced to default. On Monday in the Page Trophy section Canterbury A beat Otago, 4-0. Guy Edlin scored three penalty-corners and Ben Herbert a penaltystroke. Yesterday Canterbury A beat Waikato, 7-3. Edlin scored four more corners and a field goal giving him eight goals from two games. Grant Fuller and Chris Dockerill scored the other goals. The game began at 7 a.m. in heavy rain and the halftime score was 2-2. Canterbury asserted its superiority in the second-half when the excess water drained off the artificial turf. The colts’ B team beat North Harbour, 2-0, after the score was 0-0 at half-time. Simon Horler scored the two goals. In its second game yesterday colts’ B beat South Canterbury 2-1. Phillip Temple and Campbell Stevens scored the goals. Ashburton won its first game against Hutt Valley, 7-0, on Monday but lost yesterday to Taranaki, 0-3. Nelson lost its first game, 0-6, to the host, Northland, and beat Southland, 4-2, yesterday.
