Stability in N.Z. wool price
PA Wellington News that Australian Wool Corp will maintain its 1989/90 reserve prices at levels similar to the present season has been welcomed by New Zealand wool growers. New Zealand wool delegation leader, Mr Bill Carter, said the decision was welcomed by those looking for some measure of stability in an increasingly uncertain wool market.
On the positive side, he said, there was an expectation that China — which is now two months into its so-called six-month period of economic austerity — would give its commodity import agencies allocation of foreign currency early in the new season which will begin in July. The next wool sale will be in Christchurch on May 18, when 17,000 bales of Christchurch, Timaru and InVercargill wools will be offered. - The next North Island wool sale will be in Napier on May 25, when 20,000 bales will be on offer.
