Mother’s Day
The Minister for Disarmament and Arms Control, Ms Wilde, has . called on New Zealanders to celebrate Mother’s Day in the spirit of its founder, Julia Ward Howe, who saw it as a call for peace. In September, 1870, she convened an international meeting of women on behalf of international peace. Ms Wilde said: “Perhaps it is time for our consumer-orientated society to once again remember the real meaning of Mother’s Day and to celebrate it as a call for peace and justice.—PA.
