Lowe rules out talks
NZPA Sydney Graham Lowe has ruled out offering his services to Sydney rugby league clubs before the end of the season, according to a Sydney newspaper.
The “Daily Telegraph” yesterday quoted the former New Zealand and departing Wigan coach saying that he did not want to undermine any Sydney coaches by having talks with their clubs while they were still in charge. A league writer on another Sydney newspaper speculated yesterday that a Sydney club would have to pay out sAust4lo,ooo (SNZ518.000) for the combined services of Mr Lowe and Wigan’s New Zealand brothers, Kevin and Tony Iro.
Peter Frilingos, in the “Daily Mirror,” says some Sydney club bosses are convinced Kevin Iro will follow Mr Lowe to a Sydney club next season and Tony Iro “won’t be far behind.” Because of the demand for Kevin Iro’s services his asking price would be at least sAustlso, ooo a season and his brother would probably settle for about sAustBo,ooo, Frilingos writes.
International transfer fees would be sAustso, ooo and sAust3o,ooo respectively.
“It would be hard to imagine Lowe, recognised as a world class coach, settling for less than sAustBo,ooo for a season.
“So for around sAust4lo,ooo the trio from the Shaky Isles will be a gilt-edged investment for a Winfield Cup contender.”
