Wool prices ease
PA Wellington Wool prices eased at yesterday’s combined North Island wool sale at Napier.
The market indicator fell 10c to 636 c from 646 c a clean kilogram on April 28.
The offering of 2484 clean tonnes (21,047 bales) comprised: 77 per cent crossbred secondshear, 14 per cent clothing oddments, 2 per cent crossbred fleece, 3 per cent crossbred lambs’ wool, the balance comprising bulky skirtings, crutchings and miscellaneous.
Prices compared with Napier on April 28 were: Crossbred fleece, nominally unchanged; crossbred second-shear, par to 2.5 per cent cheaper; crossbred clothing oddments, par to fully 2.5 per cent cheaper; crossbred first lambs’, nominally par to 2 per cent cheaper; short length second-shear wools were neglected and prices substantially discounted. The Wool Board gave strong support, bidding on 69 per cent while having passed or sold to it 23 per cent.
