Wrestling on TV
Sir, —After reading and rereading D. J. McKenzie’s letter (May 5), I am still unsure whether the comparison made between our world champion All Blacks and the gratuitous violence of the “Superstars of Wrestling” is a joke. Our leading rugby players have reached their current status as a result of dedication and skill without resorting to the “stomping,” “fighting” or behaviour worthy of arrest mentioned by the correspondent. Perhaps the next time ;;the New Zealand team plays, D. J. McKenzie could take his or her head out of the sand long enough to witness the best exponents of our national game in action, playing rugby the way it should be played — hard, but fair.—Yours, etc., P. J. THOMAS. May 5, 1989.
