50c betting soon?
PA Auckland The Totalisator Agency Board says it is looking to introduce 50c betting on jackpots and trifectas. Officials from all three codes — gallops, trots and greyhounds — have approved 50c jackpot units, the T.A.B. on-course manager, Walter Brock said, and a case would now be put to the T.A.B. Board. Mr Brock would not comment on how soon the plans could be implemented until the board considered the issue, The Ministry of Internal Affairs has approved the change and the necessary software has been installed in most of the 1400 Jetbet terminals, on and off-course. Mr Brock said the work had been done at the same time as a major upgrading of terminals to improve reliability. A start date would then depend only on the printing of new Jetbet slips and marketing and promotion. The Racing Conference executive amended the jackpot regulations at its April meeting, to allow for 50c bets with a iqinimum ticket value of $2. Conference chief executive-secretary Haf Poland said the option would appeal to people who found the cost of multiple bets prohibitive.
