Supply of cannabis to boy admitted
A 15-year-old schoolboy who plunged to his death off the cliffs at Sumner had been supplied with cannabis by Dean Anthony Ebert, said Sergeant Max South in the District Court yesterday. Ebert, aged 26, a labourer (Mr Stan Barker), admitted supplying the drug to Dean Spencer Beardsley between March 25 and April 10, and having cannabis for sale or supply on April 17. He was convicted by Judge Kean and remanded on bail to May 24 for sentence. Sergeant South said that when the police searched the defendant’s address on April 17 they found two plastic bags under his
bed. Each bag contained about 15 grams of cannabis. A chilly bin, half full of cannabis, was also found. Ebert said he had sold two bags of cannabis to a 15-year-old boy. This boy had since died, said Sergeant South. The defendant said he had sold the cannabis for $l5 a bag but had not been paid for the last bag. FURTHER REMAND A man who took a $40,000 aircraft and flew it from Christchurch to Mount Cook was likely to be committed to a mental institution, said counsel, Mr Colin Eason. The 21-year-old defendant, who is under psychiatric assessment and treatment at Sunnyside Hospital, was further re-
manded to May 24. Interim suppression of his name was continued. CUSTODY Bail was strongly opposed for a man facing charges of aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery. Kiro Hemopo, aged 28, a freezing worker, was remanded in custody to May 17 “in the public interest.” He faces a charge with two other men of breaking and entering a house in Tancred Street while armed with a baseball bat and a sledgehammer and that while armed caused grievous bodily harm to Edward Mohi Huria, and robbed him of $2BBO in cash. The police allege the three offences took place on March 20.
