$30,000 from concert About $30,000 was raised from a celebrity concert in Christchurch’s Theatre Royal last evening in aid of a proposed in-vitro fertilisation unit for Canterbury. One of the concert organisers, Ms Sue Rickerby, said about 95 per cent of the tickets had been sold. The performers gave their time free. The concert was organised by the Reproductive Medicine Foundation. Cyclist seriously hurt A cyclist, aged nine, suffered serious head injuries in a collision with a car in Clyde Road, Fendalton, yesterday. The Ministry of Transport is seeking witnesses to the accident, which happened at 4.50 p.m. The boy’s name was not available last evening. Fire damages house A house in Acacia Avenue, Riccarton, was severely damaged by fire yesterday. The blaze had taken hold when three appliances arrived soon after 6 a.m. Fire safety officers are investigating. Two die in collision A man and a woman died after two vehicles collided on Auckland’s southern motorway near Drury. They were Jeffrey Mark Sievers, aged 22, a sales representative, of Papakura, and Vivienne Frances Davis, aged 43, a company director, of Pukekohe. The pair died after the car they were travelling in was in a collision with a truck about 2km north of the Drury interchange about 2 a.m. on Saturday.—PA. Donors splash out Fund-raising from World Vision’s 40-hour famine looks set to exceed last year’s total of $1.65 million. Famine participants have banked about $1.25M in World Vision’s famine account. The amount is up $200,000 on the same time last year. World Vision’s marketing director, Mr Bruce McConchie, said the “splash out” theme had captured the imagination of people. Many schools and groups had raised more than the previous year, he said.
