Parrott faces Snooker champion

John Parrott completed his victory over Tony Meo yesterday to claim his place against the defending champion, Steve Davis, in the final of the world snooker championship. The 24-year-old Englishmen needed to win just one frame from yesterday’s semi-final session to secure, his first appearance in the final.

And he wasted little time by taking the opening frame of. the scheduled nine-frame

session, 82-16, in 12 minutes to complete an emphatic 16-7 win over compatriot Meo. The top seed, Davis, strode confidently into his successive final , earlier when he completed a 16-9 victory over .Scotland’s Stephen Hendry.

Davis, aiming to equal Ray Reardon’s modernday record of six world titles, held off a late surge from his 20-year-old opponent on Saturday and then dominated yesterday’s session to capture the three frames he

needed in just 33 minutes. Hendry, who had clawed his way back from 10-2 down to trail 13-9 overnight, missed an easy red in the first frame of the day ’ and never got back in the jnatch.. His cool, unflappable

opponent punished every mistake, producing breaks of 63, 71, 54 and 40 while Hendry captured just seven points In the three frames. The best-of-35-frame, twq-day final begins today.
