New course forces harriers to a walk

Some harriers were down to a walk in the annual Lionel Fox Memorial relays on a new course at Orton Bradley Park on Saturday.

Relays were held over a course which included a steep hill, with clubs fielding teams in either a four person relay with each runner completing 2.55 km or a longer relay with each runner completing s.lkm. The St Martins club won the senior men’s relay over the longer distance, while Christchurch won the short course men’s relay. In the senior women’s relays

Sumner won the long course relay and Bascik New Brighton the short relay. The fastest man over the s.lkm was Rob Howell (St Martins), while the summer road running points champion, Christine Todd (University), was the fastest woman over the same distance. Many of the province’s top runners were not competing. Results.—
