Plum tie handed to Dunedin club

The Dunedin-based soccer club, Grants Braes, was handed a plum tie against the national league champion, Christchurch United, when the draw for the second round of the Chatham Cup was made on Saturday. Grants Braes, currently second to bottom of the Otago-Southland league, will meet United at Queen Elizabeth II Park on Saturday, May 20. While it is unlikely to progress past the second round the Grants Braes players will no doubt relish the prospect of taking United on. Other interesting matches include the Dunedin City versus Cashmere tie, in Dunedin, and the Western versus South Canterbury tie at Western Park. The current southern league leader, Burndale United, which made the quarter-finals last season, entertains the University of Canterbury second division team at Burnside Park.

The draw, made by Richard Hadlee, is.— Rangiora v. Gore, Rangiora Domain; Waihopai v. Roslyn Wakari, Dunedin; Burndale v. University, Burnside Park; Western v. South Canterbury, Western Park; Dunedin City v. Cashmere, Dunedin; North End United v. Green Island; Woolston W.M.C. v. Shamrock; Christchurch United v. Grants Braes.
