This will be a senior position in the University Administration and has been approved by the Council to co-ordinate and expand Staff development and Assessment programmes for both academic and general staff. Appraisal schemes for academic and library staff are operating at present. ' An Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor (Equal Employment Opportunities and Staff Development) has been appointed and the Staff Development Officer will be required to liaise closely with her. Two committees are being formed, one for Academic and one for General Staff, to oversee and monitor Staff Development and Appraisal Programes. It is expected that the Staff Development and Assessment Officer will act as secretary to these committees. Applicants must have had wide administrative experience and have been involved in the development and Implementation of staff development and assessment programmes. An ability to relate to staff at all levels and in all occupational groups is essential. Knowledge of the university system and the requirements of staff, both academic and general, is desirable and candidates will be expected to have a university degree or other relevant tertiary qualification. Specific duties will include: — providing advice to and co-ordinating the work of the committees involved in Staff Development and Assessment; — the development and implementation of staff performance programmes; — the implementation of staff performance schemes; — the induction of new members of staff; — the provision of career development advice to staff; — keeping the Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor (EEO and SD) fully informed on Staff Development and assessment matters; — other duties as may be assigned in the field of staff development and assessment.
