Asthma study

in Wellington Work has begun to set up an asthma review team to examine the prevalence of asthma among Maoris. In a recent Planning Council report, “From Birth to Death,” the seriousness of asthma among Maoris was emphasised. Maori mortality rates from asthma were five
times the non-Maori rates in children aged between one and five years, and three times for children aged between five and 14 years. The Minister of Maori Affairs, Mr Wetere, said that in such a grave situation he had met the Asthma Foundation to discuss forming a team to work closely with the foundation.
